Accessing Papers

Problem High school students do not have access to the institution databases which can severely limit their exposure to some research articles simply because they cannot access the full articles. The strategy so far has been getting them to identify articles they are interested in reading and then asking their SI to download those papers and forward it to the student. This is still cumbersome and discourages students from really exploring the field they are interested.

Project Topic Selection

Approach In previous years, topics have either been assigned or students had to submit their project ideas to the Programs team and wait for feedback. Our approach this year is to decentralize the process and put more power in the hands of the VP Academics that are helping support groups throughout the program. We ask that project topics be assessed and adapted at a regional level. If there are concerns with certain questions, we would be more than happy to collaborate with you on finding a solution.

Time Optimization

Feedback Youreka Edmonton will be heading into Session 3 this week and thankfully we can benefit from their challenges and pivot across Canada. The main feedback we have been getting is that the sessions are taking much longer than expected and that the pace of the R labs is too fast for students. We have identified areas where we can improve in order to deal with these points and have included guidelines for implementation below.
